Game Basics
World of Warcraft TCG ® Game Basics to Get You Started:
There are two sides known as factions, these factions are the Alliance and the Horde.
The minimum number of cards required for a deck is 60, there is no maximum deck size.
In a starter deck there are 32 cards plus two boosters with 15 cards each for a total of 62 cards plus 1 hero and some oversized hero cards. (Over sized hero cards are generally a novelty item and not used)
Newer Booster Packs from Burning Legions on have 19 cards per pack.
The instruction book is not in optimal order in our opinion. To realy get a feel for the game you will have to read about 30 pages then fumble through your first game. We have play tested this with several groups at various ages and it generally takes 90 minutes.
There are 6 "zones" setup in essentially 3 rows, your top row contains all your allies (creatures and friendly units). The second row contains from left to right your hero card followed by your hero's weapons and armor and finally ongoing abilities. The bottom row closest to you from left to right contains your graveyard, your deck then all resources.
The high level turn sequence in WoW TCG is Start Phase, Action Phase and finally End Phase.
Get your dice bag; you'll need plenty of counters. Unlike other games you will keep track of damage counters on a target, not its current health. This is a subtle difference but will make sense later as you learn the game.
The player who goes first does not draw during his first turn, the second player does. This helps offset (or negate) the going first advance.
For those of you familiar with Magic the Gathering ®(MTG):
In MTG cards "tap" in World of Warcraft TCG ® cards "Exhaust"
In MTG cards creatures are said to have "Summoning Sickness" in World of Warcraft TCG ® the same rules apply for Allies however there is not a catchy term for it.
In MTG land provides your "Mana" in World of Warcraft TCG ® Quests are generally used as your "resources" however any card may be placed face down and used as a resource.
Like MTG the maximum hand size is 7.
Unlike MTG combat is always 1 on 1 and declared individually not all in one wave. There is no limit to the number attacks you declare so long as you still have a "ready" hero or allies.
Other Basic Odds and Ends:
Three are 9 different starter deck in World of Warcraft TCG ®
MSRP per booster pack is $3.99 however you can buy them cheaper at many retailers including this one.
